When you meet Karen Hams, one of the first things you’ll notice is her love for simple joys—reading, colouring, and spending time watching her favourite shows. But behind these everyday hobbies is a story about how the right support has made her life brighter, easier, and more connected.
Karen has been with Holistic Support Services for about a year, and in that time, she’s found more than just assistance—she’s found companionship and care that feels like family.
“They do my washing, they help me with my showering, and they help me with cleaning,” Karen shared. “Kai does fantastic meals—casseroles, stews, or stir fries. Anything really, as long as it’s not spicy!”
Beyond household tasks and meals, what Karen values most is the connection and encouragement she receives from her support workers.
“At least I’ve got somebody else to talk to,” she said with a smile. “They pull me into line if I don’t do anything right, and they help me keep the house clean, which is really important to me.”
Keeping her home tidy and organised is one of Karen’s personal goals, and her support workers ensure she stays on track—something that gives her both peace of mind and independence.
But the practical help is only part of the story. What really stands out for Karen is the compassion and warmth of the team.
“They’re very loving, caring, and understanding,” she explained. “Kai is my favourite. She’s friendly, caring, and understanding. It’s like having a big family.”
When asked if she’d recommend Holistic Support Services to others, Karen didn’t hesitate: “Yes—I’d recommend them to everyone.”

For Karen, the difference has been clear. She’s experienced other providers before, but she describes Holistic Support Services as being “better than the other company I used to have.” To her, it’s not just about receiving services —it’s about feeling valued, respected, and cared for.
At Holistic Support Services, stories like Karen’s remind us why we do what we do. Support isn’t just about meeting needs; it’s about building trust, forming connections, and creating a sense of belonging.
