Like the Family I Don’t Have: Dianne’s Story of Strength and Support

Dianne Partridge

Life often leads us down unexpected paths — some filled with challenges, others with surprising joy. For Dianne Partridge, her journey with Holistic Support Services has been both. After facing health challenges that changed her life, Dianne found purpose, connection, and a new sense of belonging through the support and care she receives.

Once employed full-time, Dianne’s world shifted after experiencing a seizure that left her needing additional support. What could have been a lonely chapter became one of growth and community. “At the moment, I’m a volunteer in a hospital and I love it,” Dianne shared.

“I love helping people. Because I was recently in a hospital myself, I understand what it’s like — nobody wants to be sick, but when you’ve got people helping you, it’s the best thing you could ever do.”

For Dianne, support from Holistic Support Services has meant more than assistance — it has meant independence. From helping her access mobility aids like a walker and special bed, to organising physiotherapy, swimming sessions, and transport for appointments, the team has been by her side every step of the way. “They helped me get a smart watch, a medical alert bracelet, and even set up a safety system in case I need help. They’ve thought of everything.”

Living without close family nearby, Dianne describes Holistic Support Services as her chosen family.

“They are like the family that I don’t have here. They’ve gone out of their way to help me in more ways than I could ever believe.”

Even when facing funding cuts and challenges with her NDIS plan, Dianne’s spirit remains strong. She continues to find joy in small things — her swimming sessions, walks in Narragingee, and the dream of one day going on another whale-watching tour or even swimming with dolphins. “I’m a water sign,” she laughed. “Being in the water is heaven for me.”

Beyond her own journey, Dianne continues to look out for others. She’s even recommended Holistic Support Services to colleagues who don’t yet have an agency. “There’s one lady I work with who’s totally blind. I told her about Holistic — they’re just wonderful.”

As for her message to the support workers who make such a difference every day, Dianne shared heartfelt words: “Some carers don’t understand that I need to grab onto their hand for balance — not the other way around. But once they get to know me, they understand. It’s all about learning and patience.”

For Dianne, life now is about resilience, gratitude, and community.

“You’re like the family that I don’t have,” she said with a smile. “And that means everything.”
